How to order an EGR off file, step by step
The whole job normally takes under an hour in the workshop, including reading and writing the ECU.
1. Read the ECU
Read the original file with KESS3, Autotuner, FLEX or a comparable tool, over OBD, bench or boot depending on the ECU. Always save a backup of the untouched read.
2. Check the vehicle data
Note make, model, year, engine code, gearbox, ECU type and hardware/software number, plus any previous tuning or hardware changes.
3. Upload the file
Send the original read through the customer portal and tick EGR off, plus anything you want combined with it.
4. We write and check the file
The file is written manually from your read and checked for consistent maps and monitoring before it is returned, normally within 15 to 25 minutes in office hours.
5. Write and verify on the vehicle
Flash the modified file, clear fault memory, run a short road test and confirm no EGR codes return and readiness monitors stay clean.

What does an EGR off file actually change?
The exhaust gas recirculation function is switched off in the engine software and the related monitoring is adjusted so the ECU does not store fault codes or go into limp mode.
Will the vehicle throw a check engine light afterwards?
Not when the file is written correctly. We disable the function and its diagnostics together, and we check the file before it is returned to you.
Can EGR off be combined with a Stage 1 file?
Yes. Most workshops order the solutions in one file so the vehicle only needs to be written once.
Is EGR off legal on public roads?
In most markets emission systems must stay active on road-registered vehicles. The workshop is responsible for how the file is used, and these files are intended for off-road, motorsport or export use.
Does EGR off improve fuel economy or power?
On its own the gain is small; the real benefit is a clean intake and no recurring limp mode. Combined with a Stage 1 file you typically see a clear power and torque gain, which you can estimate in our tuning calculator.
Do I have to blank the EGR valve mechanically?
No. The file handles the valve electronically, so it stays closed. Many workshops still fit a blanking plate when the valve is mechanically worn or leaking.
Which tools can I read and write the ECU with?
Any master tool that supports the ECU: KESS3, Autotuner, FLEX and similar. Tell us the tool and read method (OBD, bench or boot) so the file comes back in the right format.
